My Tribute to Carrie

Every so often a celebrity death occurs and it has a real impact on the individual; usually because that celebrity was a part of our collective childhood and it felt like we knew them.

Carrie Fisher was one of those actors for me. Princess Leia (played by Fisher in Star Wars) was the first strong female on screen character that I remember as a kid, she was as smart (or smarter?) as the male characters, as strong, as brave, as fearless and tough. Princess Leia, and the sensibilities lent to the character by Carrie Fisher made the character a role model; the original kick ass rebel princess.

This is my tribute to Carrie Fisher in the role that made me and thousands of other little girls realise that we could rescue ourselves, lead an army and save an empire and still get the man (if we wanted).

Christmas Gifts

Spent the last weekend of work completing reports and finalising marking, but when I needed a change of scenery I worked on 3 artworks I planned to give as Christmas gifts to friends. Below are some progress shots as well as the final pieces.

World War One

The second of four World War One commissions- inspired by the statues from The Scale of Our War exhibition. This time a doctor in a hopeless stance:

Frozen Fan Art

I'm one of those really annoying people, I like to finish one project before moving onto a new one. With all the movies that have been released over the holidays I knew I had to finish this piece of Anna from Frozen fan art before moving on to a new one. Completed on Wacom Cintiq and Adobe Photoshop CS3 and CS6 (yes it was time to upgrade).

Guardians of the Galaxy - Nebula Fan Art

I am loving portraiture at the moment and rather than just concentrating on 'ordinary' faces, what better way to practice tonal difference and use of colour than to draw an alien? Nebula is a character from Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
