Drawing Inspiration

After a full year of Honours study, I thought the last thing I would want to work on would be another background- but as soon as I finished uni I had found a new mini project. I've been proof reading an aspiring fantasy author's latest writings and was quite taken with the atmosphere of a dense European forest populated by an un-named forest being of some kind.

The scene I have used is set before the actual story events take place. I really wanted an opportunity to mess around with creating art based upon word description only. Essentially a concept artist.

So Then This Happened....AWESOME

I'm an avid user of social media, I had a Facebook account before it was cool, when everyone else was using MySpace I linked my two accounts lol, wonder whatever happened to MySpace lol. I also love Delicious and am keen to try Pininterest and of course I love to blog :D

So when I saw that Computer Arts Magazine (UK) had a Twitter feed (@ComputerArts) I had to follow along. The magazine has been a favourite of mine for years so when I tweeted a link to my current Hons work I had no idea that they would actually think it was good enough to include on a daily gallery of inspiration. But then this happened:

I know in the grand scheme of things its only little, but it means a lot to me because as an artist you tend to spend a lot of your time creating images uncertain as to whether they have any affect on the viewer or whether they are any good- but there is it, my Nan's Chinese dog statue, over a hundred years old, painted digitally by me and now on the interwebs lol. Concept Art for Draco

A few concept art pieces for Draco. Main aim was to see how the characters 'fit' in their environments and how a particular atmosphere can be portrayed through the setting. A challenge was to get the right level of desaturation to enable the characters to pop and the backgrounds to play a supporting role.

Concept Art Backgrounds- Draco 'Disney-esque'

Backgrounds that are more detailed and seem 'denser' in colour saturation:

Character Designs Draco

Working on creating 'animate-able' character designs based on a vintage inspired Draco. Want to establish a character that is both flexible and able to be animated effectively whilst retaining volume and shape; essentially staying on model.

Concept Art- Vintage Inspired

Some concept background art for Draco, these have been inspired by the vintage classic Disney and Warner Bros films of the 1950s.
